Four things to sort before your new website

4 November 2026

Before the design, the name

In 2022 a fashion designer asked us for a new website. With our estimate, we sent four pieces of advice. None of them is design, and each is harder to change after launch.

A recognisable domain

Choose an available domain people can recognise and spell. Use the same address consistently on your official profiles and listings.

Whether each line needs its own brand

If you sell two different things, decide early whether each gets its own name. The designer had a bridal line and planned a ready-to-wear line. We suggested a brand name for the ready-to-wear line, which would have its own shop.

Official social profiles

Secure the profiles you plan to use and link them from your website. Check each platform’s current verification options and eligibility before deciding whether to apply.

Email on your own domain

Write from an address on your own domain, not a free webmail one. An address on your own domain can stay with the business when you change email provider, provided you retain control of the domain.

Then, the shape of the site

Alongside those decisions, we proposed the shape of the sites. We proposed two, each with one job. The main site would hold the bridal stories, the lookbook, the history, the press and the downloads. The ready-to-wear line would have its own shop, with product lists, lookbooks and product pages.
