A firm opening its doors

SmartBooks keeps books, prepares tax and runs payroll from Kathmandu for businesses in the UK, the US and Australia. Its web address was registered in September 2025, and we began its logo and website that month.

Four ways to draw an S

Our designer drew four marks, each an S built from a different idea. Two brackets that lock together, two half circles cut on a slant, two layered shapes like an open book, and a grid of small squares.

Four logo concepts in a grid: green interlocking brackets, a purple circle cut on a slant, purple layered shapes like an open book, and blue squares in an S, each beside the name

Tested on a stamp

The first two came back from our founder as shapes seen too often, with a question: how would the green hold up on a stamp printed in one colour? The next round added the two other concepts and tried the brackets in black, as a stamp prints them. The client liked green, so three final versions were drawn in green, and the layered shapes were chosen that September.

A sheet and a stamp

One style sheet holds the brand. It shows the logo on light, green and dark grounds, stacked, and as the mark alone, with five colours and their codes. Headings are set in Forum and text in DM Sans. In October 2025 the firm received the sheet and a printable PDF of its company stamp, sized at two and a half inches across.

A licensed template, dressed in the brand

The website runs on a licensed template, so the layout is the template’s. We set it up and changed its colours and type to the style sheet’s. We redrew two of its graphics in the brand and built a page for each of the six services. We host the site, and we set up a cloud machine so the team can run its accounting software from anywhere.
